I showed you pictures my daughter’s room when I explained that we bought a neglected 3 bedroom house and converted the large bedroom into 2 smaller rooms. The kid’s bedroom you saw in that post was the right hand side of the original room. Here I’ll show you the left-hand side of the same room. Now it’s a spacious, separate bedroom. This detail was a large part of our complete extreme makeover.
As you can see, the light fitting (for some bizarre reason) was in the side of the ceiling. The old window was nailed shut because it was faulty. This old-fashioned, odd bed head took over the entire wall on this side of the original bedroom. This picture was taken from the far side of the room, which is now a separate bedroom.
Converting 1 bedroom into 2 kids’ rooms
I obviously can’t take the new picture from the same angle, since there is now a separating wall blocking my view. This image and the one below is of the same wall you see in picture number 1. The room is now large enough for ample storage, a bed, an armchair, a chest of drawers and bits and bobs - boy’s stuff. There is a cupboard behind the wall on the left side of the old bedroom in picture number 1 (it’s now green and is at the head of the bed in picture number 3 below). It was originally the airing cupboard which housed a giant-sized hot water tank. We’ve now put in a new boiler elsewhere, so this cupboard is used as a wardrobe. Along with the chest of drawers at the foot of the bed, the room has more than enough storage space for a child.
All the carpets were removed, and the wooden floors stripped and oiled. The wall paper were all removed, the walls cleaned, holes filled and sanded. Painting then commenced.

The bedroom is big enough even for an armchair in the corner. The stuffed toy sits in it when the boy is away
Ultimately, this additional bedroom one of the best decisions we’ve made for the house. New windows and stripped, polished, wooden floors make the room secure, warm and easy to clean. After all, he has to do the cleaning himself.
