Declutter Your Home In 1 Weekend

Declutter your home in 1 weekend shows you some quick, free things you can do to organize your home in a flash. De-cluttering your house can take a lot of time and a load of effort, but there are some key things you can do, which will make a remarkable difference with a limited amount of effort. The 5 points below will take you one week-end to do, but the difference it makes to organizing your life and your home is significant.

De-clutter your home in 1 week-end

1. Declutter your home by organizing your clothes

Throw out the clothes you haven’t worn for the past 2 years. For instance, if you haven’t worn that winter coat these past two winters, it means you don’t particularly like it, can’t fit in it, or don’t want it any more. Moreover, it means you’re not likely to wear it next year either. Make space for all the clothes you’ve got stored under your bed and elsewhere - cluttering up valuable space.

2. Declutter your home by making a wall collage with your pictures

Remove some of your standing pictures around your home and make a wall collage like the one above (or use a different shape). Standing pictures, no matter how beautiful the frame, makes your home look cluttered with odds and ends. Find a good space on your wall. This could be in the hallway, on the stairs’ wall, in the bedroom etc. Cut papers to the exact size of the picture frames you’ve collected. Make sure you have all sizes and shapes. Once you have your pieces of paper, arrange them on the wall in patters (you can use blue tack to stick them on) until you like what you’ve created. Replace the pieces of paper with the pictures when happy. And viola, you have a classy wall collage and you’re on your way to de-cluttering your home!

Declutter your home by making use of shoe boxes

Cover old shoe boxes with wrapping paper and use them to store kids’ toys and books. You don’t have to have lots of storage units to have storage space. Just store the boxes on top of your wardrobe etc, and you have a cheap storage solution to organize your home. Ideally, you can use several shoe boxes, of different sizes, covered in various wrapping paper like the storage boxes in the picture above. This looks elegant and expensive.

Declutter your home by recycling kitchen trays

use old plastic containers to store kids' stuff

Kitchen trays - used for cutlery in the kitchen - can also be useful around the rest of the home. Recycle your old plastic ones and use them in your kids’ bedrooms to store pens, rulers, jewellery, crayons, and a host of other knick knacks that show up as clutter around the bedroom. You can spray paint them if you want them in different colours. You can also use old, plastic containers no longer needed in the kitchen to store little socks, puzzle pieces, books etc. And, as I was looking for pictures of plastic containers, I found this adorable women’s shoes storage. I’ve linked the page for you at the end of this article.

Declutter your home by re-using old storage units

Do you have an old, storage unit you don’t use any more? Don’t let it gather dust in your garage. Measure it and cut it down to recycle it elsewhere. Most people need storage at the back door where kids come in and just dump their shoes. Once you’ve cut down a bigger storage unit, a lick of paint, and a day later, you could have shelves for the kids to store their shoes and school bags right by the door where they need them. If this isn’t an option, why not get yourself an over-the-door shoes storage rack? They take up no space at all, but give you all the storage you need. I’ve put a picture of what I’m talking about below.

Declutter your home: conclusion

Have you got other ways to declutter your home? What other ways do you use to organize your life and home in a short space of time? If my bathroom and kitchen have been cleared up I find that the house instantly looks de-cluttered. This is why I’ve worked hard to have ample storage in these rooms. What do you think?

This is a great post, I especially like the idea of making a wall collage with your photos. I am always thinking of ways to use these better but often have a hard time coming up with a good way to do. I will work on doing this over the weekend!

Good timing on this. We just spend Sunday decluttering the basement. The process? We gave everyone (dad, mom, the kids — only the dog got out of doing this) three paper grocery bags and told them they had to fill them with items to donate to the local Goodwill store. It was a great way to free up space on bookshelves, DVD racks etc and not just get rid of junk — although a lot of junk did get tossed in the process.

That’s a fabulous way to declutter. Having a bag gives you the focus to fill it, and not to put things back that you need (but never use). I like this and will try it with my own family.

I love to declutter’s everything while the decorating color is imporatant to me because I love the color. According to the show box, the colors are kind of mixed up and hard to figure the main colors of boxes. However, I love to your tips, these are such an unique I have found.

PS: This is the first time I visites this blog and I will visiting your blog more in the future.
