Wow Your Guests With Autumn Decorations

Have you ever considered how simple it is to wow your guests with autumn decorations? With the changing leaves bringing a pop of colour outdoors in autumn, it makes sense that you would want to bring the beauty of autumn inside for a more immediate enjoyment. And of course, you want to impress your Halloween and Thanksgiving guests. How can you accomplish all of this? Check out these ideas.

Raid Your Backyard for Thanksgiving Decorations

When it comes time for Thanksgiving, bring the beauty of the outdoors inside by making DIY projects out of leaves, acorns, pine cones, and twigs from your backyard. Any of these objects can be used for twisting a homemade wreath for your front door.

You can also use them to create a unique centerpiece complete with a candle in the center. To prevent your dry supplies from getting too close to the frame, use a mason jar with a tea candle as the basis of your centerpiece. Then decorate around it with pinecones, twigs, and leaves. Start by trying a centerpiece like the one in the photo.

Use Hay for Decorations

Along with pumpkins and other gourds, hay makes a fantastic decoration option for Halloween. The projects should be cheap, and you get a chance to add a personal touch to each DIY project. You can start by using a bale of hay in a simple setting in your front yard complete with pumpkins and corn cobs. Or you can use the hay to stuff old clothes and create your own scarecrow. Paint a pumpkin for his head!

Another exciting idea is to use bales of hay to create characters like the one shown above. This option will bring the spirit of Halloween and autumn straight to your doorstep while giving your kids something fun to enjoy and your neighbours and visitors a great decoration to marvel at.

Repurpose Your Christmas Lights

Christmas isn’t the only time that it’s appropriate to light up for celebrations! You can always cut out pumpkin shapes from cardstock and attach them to white Christmas lights to make a Halloween-themed string of lights that you can put around your door for trick-or-treaters. A tissue attached to each bulb will create a ghostly appeal for Halloween, too. Or you can buy autumn-themed Dixie cups and place one over each light so that the string is appropriate for the entire season.

Mason jars, Christmas lights, and autumn-themed items go together well, too. You can start by stuffing mason jars with things like acorns, pine cones, and lights to add a soft autumn glow to your room. Another idea is to glue leaves from your backyard onto mason jars and fill the jars with lights for a fall appeal. Need more ideas? Check out these fall lighting ideas from Christmaslightsetc.com.

Create Unique Wall Art

Fall wall art can really make things look like autumn in your home. When you find a neat DIY project that your guests haven’t seen before, it will really make them stop and look with awe at it. Start by trying trimmed leaf art, where you cut leaves into shapes and press them into a picture frame. Sometimes trimming isn’t even necessary, and all you need is some leaves and glue. Leaves taped to the wall can also make neat wall decals. If you want to do something really neat, try making this 3D fall poster.

Spruce Up Your Table

Before you’re completely done with your decorations, your table is going to need a makeover. After all, if you’re hosting for Thanksgiving, your autumn guests are going to be looking forward to entering your dining room. Start by adding a tablecloth for a formal appeal. Use an autumn-themed table runner to spice up the decor.

Before you set dishes on the table, set out place mats that complement the theme. Mats in autumn colors like oranges and browns are often all you need to do the trick. Finish off with a fall-themed centerpiece like the DIY projects mentioned above.

With these many ideas, wowing your guests this autumn is all about deciding which projects to tackle. Which types of autumn decorations will you use this year?
